You are Location:HDMI 2.0b Specification

Overview

HDMI 2.0b Specification is backwards compatible with earlier versions of the HDMI specification. It also enables key enhancements to support market requirements for enhancing the consumer video and audio experience.

What are the key advanced features enabled by HDMI 2.0b

  • Enables transmission of High Dynamic Range (HDR) video
  • Bandwidth up to 18Gbps
  • 4K@50/60 (2160p), which is 4 times the clarity of 1080p/60 video resolution
  • Up to 32 audio channels for a multi-dimensional immersive audio experience
  • Up to 1536kHz audio sample frequency for the highest audio fidelity
  • Simultaneous delivery of dual video streams to multiple users on the same screen
  • Simultaneous delivery of multi-stream audio to multiple users (Up to 4)
  • Support for the wide angle theatrical 21:9 video aspect ratio
  • Dynamic synchronization of video and audio streams
  • CEC extensions provide more expanded command and control of consumer electronics devices through a single control point

HDMI 2.0b does not define new cables or new connectors. Current High Speed cables (Category 2 cables) are capable of carrying the increased bandwidth.

What is the testing policy for HDMI 2.0 products?
An  Adopter's first product in a designated product category that implements any function of the HDMI 2.0 specification needs to be submitted to an ATC for testing and pass all applicable and available HDMI compliance tests before shipment.

An Adopter's subsequent product in a designated product category that implements any additional function of the HDMI 2.0 specification should be submitted to an ATC for testing and pass all applicable and available HDMI compliance tests before shipment.

Can existing HDMI cables support the higher bandwidths of HDMI 2.0 Specification?
Yes, existing High Speed HDMI Cables (wire only) will support the new higher bandwidths (up to 18Gbps).

HDMI 2.0 specification defined a new, more efficient signaling method, for speeds above 1.4b limits (10.2Gbps), to allow higher bandwidths (up to 18Gbps) over existing High Speed HDMI Wire Cables.

Does HDMI 2.0 support BT.2020 (rec.2020) colorimetry?
Yes. HDMI 2.0 includes support for BT.2020 Colorimetry with 10 or more bits of color depth.
Video Formats defined in BT.2020 and supported by HDMI 2.0 specification:
– 2160p, 10/12 bits, 24/25/30Hz, RGB/4:2:2/4:4:4
